The Sky Rockats
The Sky Rockats have been howling away in Victoria’s great south west since way back in early 2005. Ex-Slap’n’the Cats members Slim & Billy had the need to play all the great rockabilly hits and their own original material once again after an extended break, so with Robin “Slap” Sharrock unavailable at the time, & after an exhaustive search, they stumbled upon ex Hog Stompin’ Zydegator Tim Conlan, ready, willing & able to jump into the back seat & take on slappin’ bass duties. Thus, The Sky Rockats was born!
Since those heady days of tea, biscuits and occasional rehearsals, the boys have kicked off their rockabilly shoes from Warrnambool, to Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne & even Tassie, to amaze, astound & generally entertain audiences wherever they go. Some of their best shows have been at Coolangatta’s Wintersun Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, & countless rock’n’roll dances & hot rod shows across the country. With a solid repertoire of originals written by the band, as well as their own interpretations of rockabilly classics from the ’50’s all the way through the rockabilly revival of the ’80’s & ’90’s, The Sky Rockats have proved themselves a good fit for any gig, from rowdy country pubs, to family-oriented rock’n’roll dances, to music festivals, where they unleash their unique sound onto unsuspecting punters to wide acclaim.
Now in 2010, The Sky Rockats have released their new album “Space Girl”, a 12-track odyssey of original rockabilly craziness, broken-hearted ballads & a touch of spaghetti western thrown in for good measure. “Space Girl” has emerged as a successful followup to their previous two albums, 2006’s “3 Flavours, 5c Pops”, & 2007’s “Rockats’n’Rods”, both popular choices among the rock’n’roll & hot rod set.
